If you ask someone for help, whether or not they are able to help you, ask them this…
“And what can I do to help you?”
In a LinkedIn poll 90% of respondents said they never get asked this question – even after they have helped someone. When we help someone it shouldn’t be with the goal of getting something in return, but asking this simple question is just old-fashioned kindness.
When you ask, and sincerely do your best to help, you’ll stand out from the takers.
Most people need help of some kind. A resource, a connection, feedback, a referral, information, a kind word on a bad day. The list goes on. Be the person who helps. You’ll feel better and the other person will feel better about you.
And while we’re on the subject, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you!
